OK, my bee-ness is not growing. Just got a tingle to let out some air from underneath the boney brainbox.
This morning I got the exceptional pleasure of riding my bike through the rain.
I know what you're thinking: wake up and smell the sandwich with choco: you are living in Belgium, so you can "enjoy" this "pleasure" regularly.
Well: no.
First of all: rain is gravely overestimated in our tiny triangular kingdom. Of course, we're always complaining about the weather, and admittedly, our share of sheer sunshine is rather uneven. Yet still: every morning, I have the CHOICE to ride my bike to school with the kids and then on to workville, and really: only occasionally does humidity make me doubt my choice. If I should get a stab at it, I would say that at most 20 mornings got me considering alternatives (NOT counting those I'm-a-lazy-fart-so-screw-ecology-days).
However: even still, all this did not make my morning exceptional. What did, were in fact my kids. Ruben in his cool raincoat, Anne in duck-shaped overcoat (!!) each hopped on their vehicles without even mentioning the water of the heavens. Even better: on the road, Ruben commented (not after me feeding it to him): "sometimes, it's even fun when when we're riding through the rain" !
So, we got to school, drenched, and saw umbrella-clad teachers greeting us with "good morning, if you can call it that". I was very pleased to answer: "a good morning indeed".
